Sonko Takes the Wheel as National Patron of Boda Boda and Tuk Tuk Operators

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been unanimously elected as the national patron of the Boda Boda and Tuk Tuk Transport Cooperative Union of Kenya. The election took place on Sunday, March 16, during a meeting at Sonko’s Mua Farm residence in Machakos, where leaders of various Saccos and associations representing over 2.5 million boda boda and tuk-tuk operators gathered.

In his new role, Sonko is committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of these operators. His agenda includes engaging with government institutions, county governments, law enforcement, parliament, and insurance agencies to address challenges such as delays in claim payments and difficulties in accessing spare parts. He also plans to address provisions in the Public Transport (Motorcycle Regulation) Bill 2023 that may adversely affect the sector.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, Sonko vowed to restore order and professionalism within the transport sector, ensuring that the concerns of boda boda and tuk-tuk operators are heard and addressed. He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements within the industry, stating that efforts would be made to eliminate such activities.
