Tusker FC began the 2026/27 campaign with silverware after defeating reigning FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia 3-1 in the FKF Super Cup at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, delivering an early statement ahead of the new league season.
The Super Cup traditionally provides the final competitive test before the league gets underway, giving coaches an opportunity to assess their squads, fine-tune combinations and gauge their teams’ readiness. For Gor Mahia, however, the occasion once again saw coach Charles Akonnor make significant changes to his starting lineup, continuing his pattern of rotation at a time when the team would have benefited from building consistency.
Humphrey Katasi was handed the starting role in goal, while Paul Okoth was left on the bench. Derrick Omedi was preferred in attack, with Enock Machaka also included, while Adukwaw came into the side in place of Shariff Musa. The selections caught some Gor Mahia supporters by surprise, particularly given the importance of the match as the final competitive examination before the league campaign.
Gor Mahia started positively and created the first notable opportunity in the eighth minute when Ben Stanley Omondi tested Tusker goalkeeper Perrauld Ndinga with a powerful effort. Ndinga reacted well to keep the attempt out.
Tusker gradually settled into the contest and nearly opened the scoring six minutes later. Yakeen Muteheli produced a superb run, beating the Gor defence before cutting the ball back into a dangerous position. Abdoulie Joof was unable to apply the finishing touch as Gor recovered in time.
The Brewers eventually broke the deadlock in the 34th minute. Servyl Akouala’s low free-kick found Francis Oduor on the edge of the box, and the midfielder struck a composed half-volley beyond Katasi.

Tusker doubled their advantage only two minutes later. Alvin Mang’eni found space on the left before delivering for Eugene Ikutwa, who calmly finished to put the Brewers 2-0 ahead.Gor Mahia were handed a route back into the game just before halftime when Ikutwa inadvertently turned the ball into his own net following a long throw that caused confusion inside the Tusker penalty area.
Akonnor responded at the break with two substitutions, bringing on Ebenezer Assifuah and Musa Shariff for Dennis Omedi and Enock Machaka as Gor sought greater attacking threat.
The changes, however, did little to alter the momentum. Tusker restored their two-goal advantage in the 57th minute when Muteheli supplied the cross and Ian Simiyu produced a clever flicked header to make it 3-1.

Gor Mahia pushed forward in search of another comeback, but Tusker remained organised and disciplined. K’Ogalo struggled to convert possession and pressure into clear-cut opportunities, while the Brewers were comfortable protecting their advantage.
Even six minutes of added time could not provide Gor with a way back, as Tusker saw out the contest to claim the Super Cup.The victory gives Tusker their second major domestic trophy after their FKF Cup triumph and provides the Brewers with considerable momentum heading into the 2026/27 league season.
