The 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit continued to deliver high-quality action at Mombasa Sports Club on Saturday, with the Driftwood 7s reaching the knockout stage after a competitive opening day.
The fourth leg of the six-tournament circuit has brought together the leading sides in a battle for valuable points, with teams seeking to build momentum as the championship enters its second half.
Kabras Sugar RFC made the strongest statement of the opening rounds, beginning their campaign with a dominant 43–0 victory over hosts Mombasa Rugby. Patrick Sabatia, Mike Lukusi, Rayvon Ambale, Jackson Siketi, Kevin Wekesa and Adrian Kwesa all crossed the line as Kabras produced a clinical attacking display.
The Kakamega side followed that performance with another clean-sheet victory, defeating Nondescripts 12–0. Matthias Osimbo scored both tries in the first half before Kabras’ defence kept Nondies scoreless after the interval.
KCB Rugby also enjoyed a positive start, beating Kisumu RFC 22–5 before edging Uganda 7s 12–7. Samuel Asati, Festus Shiasi and David Nyagige were among the scorers against Kisumu, while Richel Wangila and Vincent Onyala got the tries against Uganda.
The hosts Mombasa Rugby produced one of the biggest surprises of the day when they defeated Kenya Harlequin 22–19. Harlequin started strongly through Brightone Omondi, but Mombasa fought back to lead 10–7 at halftime.

Newton Malenya extended the hosts’ advantage after the break before Harlequin responded through Omondi, who completed his brace to put the visitors ahead. Mombasa, however, found a late response to reclaim the lead and hold on for a memorable home victory.
Nondescripts had also enjoyed a strong start, defeating Kenya Harlequin 17–5, while the other leading sides continued to position themselves for the knockout phase.
The quarter-final stage now brings together eight teams in four matches, with the results expected to have an impact both on the Driftwood title and the wider National Sevens Circuit standings.
Driftwood 7s Quarter-Final Fixtures

KCB and Kabras enter the knockout stage among the teams carrying strong momentum from the opening rounds, while Mombasa will be hoping to continue their impressive home run against Daystar Falcons.
Menengai Oilers face Kenya Harlequin in another intriguing contest, while Nondescripts will have the difficult task of containing a Kabras side that has yet to concede a point in its opening matches.
The Driftwood 7s is also a crucial stop in the wider six-leg National Sevens Circuit. With the championship moving beyond its halfway point, teams cannot afford to drop valuable points as the remaining tournaments draw closer.
The quarter-finals therefore offer more than a route to the Driftwood semi-finals. They provide another opportunity for the leading sides to strengthen their overall championship campaigns and for the challengers to close the gap in the standings.
With four knockout matches set to determine the semi-finalists, the Mombasa leg is perfectly poised for another day of intense sevens rugby.
