Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia has officially assumed the role of Meru County Governor after a swearing-in ceremony held on Today, at Mwendantu Grounds in North Imenti, as announced by the Assumption of Office Committee in a Gazette Notice dated March 14.
This transition follows a High Court ruling on Friday, March 14, which upheld the Senate’s decision to impeach former Governor Kawira Mwangaza. Justice Bahati Mwamuye determined that the petition challenging Mwangaza’s removal did not meet the legal threshold to overturn the Senate’s decision, affirming that she was given a fair hearing.
Before his elevation, Mutuma served as Deputy Governor alongside Mwangaza, and has a background in both public service and religious leadership. He held various roles in the Kenya Prisons Service and has been active in child rights advocacy and youth representation. Mutuma also holds academic qualifications in Forensic Psychology, Criminology, Theology, and Governance and Ethics.
The swearing-in ceremony marks a significant moment in Meru’s political landscape, ushering in new leadership following a period of political upheaval.
