Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has reiterated that Kenya is not the sole country working to resolve the ongoing conflict in Sudan, pushing back against accusations that Nairobi is interfering in Sudanese sovereignty. Speaking on Sunday, Mudavadi emphasized that Kenya’s involvement mirrors global efforts aimed at restoring peace in the war-torn nation.
“There were talks in Paris a year ago about Sudan, you cannot say that France was dismembering Sudan. As we speak, there is a meeting being planned in the UK on Sudan, you cannot say that is to dismember Sudan through London talks,” he stated.
Mudavadi clarified that Kenya is acting in good faith by facilitating dialogue between Sudan’s warring factions, echoing similar diplomatic moves by countries like the UK and France. He insisted the sole aim is to find a sustainable solution to the conflict, which has already led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions.
Kenya recently hosted representatives from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese civilian groups in Nairobi, prompting strong objections from the Sudanese government, which called the meetings hostile. However, Mudavadi defended the initiative, stating that Kenya has a long history of peace-building in the region and intends to continue playing a constructive role.
The Kenyan government has also offered to mediate talks between Sudan’s rival generals and proposed establishing a humanitarian corridor to ease the suffering of affected civilians.
