Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has strongly condemned incidents of violence, disorder and hooliganism witnessed after Sunday’s FKF Super Cup clash between Gor Mahia and Tusker FC at Nyayo National Stadium.
The disturbances came shortly after Tusker defeated reigning FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia 3-1 to lift the season-opening trophy, with the incidents raising serious concerns over the safety of football fans and other stakeholders.
In a statement issued after the match, FKF said the violence, destruction of property and intimidation had no place in Kenyan football, stressing that the safety of players, journalists, match officials, fans, security personnel and the general public must remain a priority.
The federation also expressed concern over the use of tear gas and other crowd-control measures during the incidents. While acknowledging the responsibility of security agencies to maintain order, FKF said such interventions must be carried out with restraint, professionalism and in accordance with the law.
FKF said it will work with relevant authorities and football stakeholders to establish exactly what happened and pursue those found responsible for violence or other misconduct.
The federation noted that any individual found to have breached FKF regulations or the law, whether a fan, club official, steward or security officer,should face appropriate action through due process.
As part of the investigation, FKF will review available match footage alongside reports from match officials and other stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents.
The federation has consequently called on fans, security agencies and all football stakeholders to uphold discipline and help ensure that football stadiums remain safe and welcoming spaces.
“FKF remains committed to protecting the integrity of the game and ensuring that no one is above accountability,” the federation said.
The statement comes as attention shifts from the Super Cup result to the security and crowd management concerns that overshadowed what was meant to serve as the curtain raiser for the 2026/27 Kenyan football season.
