First Lady Rachel Ruto expanded the pilot phase of the National School Milk Programme to Nakuru County, benefiting Testai Primary School and Menengai Comprehensive School. This initiative, under her “Feed One End Hunger” campaign, provides each student with two packets of milk per week for one year, aiming to enhance nutrition and encourage school attendance.
The program is supported by New KCC Limited and Devyani Foods Limited, producers of Daima dairy products. In addition to the milk distribution, the First Lady donated a truckload of food supplies and facilitated the establishment of a kitchen and fruit garden at the schools to bolster food security and nutrition.
Dr. Paul Ronoh, Principal Secretary for Agriculture, praised the First Lady’s efforts in promoting food security within public primary schools. He announced plans to launch 10,000 kitchen gardens in schools and community centers nationwide starting in April 2025.
The event was attended by several leaders, including Nakuru Women’s Representative Liza Chelule, Rongai MP Paul Chebor, Subukia MP Samuel Gachobe, and Margaret Kibogy, Managing Director of the Kenya Dairy Board. These leaders emphasized the importance of the school milk program in improving student health and supporting local dairy farmers.
