Machakos County Assembly was rocked by bribery allegations during a session to discuss the vetting report of nominee Annastacia Munyaka for the position of CEC for Water and Sanitation. Several MCAs admitted to receiving at least Ksh.20,000 to endorse her appointment.
Mwala/Makutano MCA Brian Kisila stunned the assembly by claiming that Majority Leader Nicholas Nzioka had offered him Ksh.20,000 to influence his decision. Kisila specified the time of the transaction, adding weight to his allegations.
In response, Nzioka refuted Kisila’s claims, stating that he had transferred funds to Kisila over 34 times and challenged him to clarify the context of these transactions.
The assembly’s Speaker has called for an inquest to address concerns raised about Munyaka’s integrity, educational background, and the bribery allegations involving the clerk’s office and the MCAs. A faction of dissatisfied MCAs is demanding a thorough inquiry into the nominee’s qualifications and the corruption claims, warning that approving unqualified officers could burden Machakos residents.
