Varsity Student Ian Njoroge Freed After Assault Case Dropped by Officer

Ian Njoroge, a 19-year-old student from the Technical University of Kenya, was released from custody today after the police officer he allegedly assaulted withdrew the case, citing forgiveness.

Earlier, Njoroge had been charged with assaulting and robbing a police officer, Corporal Jacob Ogendo, of his mobile phone and a police communication device. He was also accused of causing grievous harm and resisting arrest. The incident gained widespread attention after a video surfaced showing Njoroge allegedly attacking the officer along Kamiti Road.

Following his arrest, Njoroge was released on a KSh 700,000 bond. During his detention, his defense team reported that he was manhandled by police officers, leading to two fainting episodes. They also claimed that his clothes bore blood stains and that his mobile phone and student ID were confiscated.
