Sudan Suspends All Imports from Kenya Amid Rising Tensions

Sudan’s Ministry of Trade and Supply has announced the immediate suspension of all imports from Kenya, citing national security concerns. The decree, issued by Acting Minister Omar Ahmed Mohamed Ali, halts the import of Kenyan products through all ports, crossings, airports, and entry points until further notice.

This action stems from Kenya’s involvement in hosting meetings for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group engaged in conflict within Sudan. In February 2025, Kenya facilitated a meeting where the RSF and allied groups signed a political charter aiming to establish a parallel government, an initiative condemned by Sudan as a violation of its sovereignty.

Sudan perceives Kenya’s hosting of the RSF as a “hostile act” and a breach of international agreements, leading to the recall of its ambassador from Nairobi. The suspension of imports, including tea, food items, and pharmaceuticals, is viewed as a measure to protect Sudan’s national interests and security.
