Raila Odinga Joins Speaker Wetangula and Catholic MPs at Nairobi’s Apostolic Nunciature to Mourn Pope Francis

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, accompanied by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Catholic Members of Parliament, gathered at the Apostolic Nunciature in Nairobi to offer their condolences following the passing of Pope Francis. The delegation paid their respects at the Vatican’s diplomatic mission in Kenya, a significant gesture reflecting the deep ties between Kenya and the Catholic Church.

Speaker Wetangula, affectionately known as “Papa wa Roma,” expressed his admiration for the late pontiff during a previous meeting in Vatican City in August 2024. He described Pope Francis as a “true servant leader” dedicated to bringing hope, equality, and opportunities to the less fortunate, embodying mercy, love, compassion, and courage in his leadership

The gathering at the Apostolic Nunciature underscored the profound respect and solidarity shared between Kenya’s political leadership and the global Catholic community during this period of mourning.
