Azimio Coalition Faces Setback as Five Parties Exit

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has experienced a significant shift with the departure of five constituent parties. The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) confirmed that the People’s Liberation Party, Maendeleo Chap Chap Party, Devolution Empowerment Party, United Democratic Movement, and Pamoja African Alliance have formally exited the coalition.

This development has implications for the coalition’s representation in the National Assembly. Speaker Moses Wetangula referenced post-election agreements filed with the ORPP, noting that 14 MPs from these parties had left Azimio, thereby affecting the coalition’s majority status in the House.

The departure of these parties has led to discussions about the future of the Azimio coalition. Some members are reportedly exploring the formation of a new alliance, potentially involving opposition leaders such as Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa.

As the political landscape evolves, the remaining parties within Azimio are reassessing their strategies and alliances in response to these changes.
