National Assembly Adjourns Morning Session Due to Lack of Quorum

The National Assembly was compelled to adjourn its morning session this morning, after failing to achieve the required quorum of 50 members. Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to ring the quorum bell for ten minutes, but only about 20 members were present, falling short of the necessary attendance. Consequently, the House was adjourned until 2:30 PM the same day.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about parliamentary attendance and the commitment of legislators to their duties. Observers have expressed frustration over the frequent adjournments due to lack of quorum, especially when critical national issues are at stake. The adjournment also led to the postponement of several scheduled debates and motions, including discussions on the Kenya Information Communications (Amendment) Bill 2022 and the Community Health Workers Bill 2022.

The National Assembly is expected to reconvene at 2:30 PM to continue with the day’s agenda.
