Talanta Trouble Sinks Gor Mahia’s Title Hopes

Gor Mahia’s dream of lifting another FKF Premier League title took a heavy blow on Thursday afternoon after a shock 1-0 defeat to lowly FC Talanta at Dandora Stadium.

In a match that few predicted would go against the record champions, Talanta’s Emmanuel Osoro stunned the visitors with a clinical finish in the 38th minute, converting a rebounded long-range effort from Cliff Oruko. Despite late pressure and a thunderous free kick by Austin Odhiambo that rattled the crossbar in the 80th minute, K’Ogalo couldn’t find a way back.

To make matters worse, Gor were without head coach Sinisa Mihic, serving a suspension, leaving assistant Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno at the helm. The club has been grappling with internal wrangles within the technical bench, adding friction to an already tense title race.

The result ended Gor Mahia’s eight-match unbeaten run and further dented their chances in the closely fought battle for the title, with leaders Tusker now pulling further ahead.

Meanwhile, FC Talanta, fighting to avoid relegation, played with grit and purpose despite also missing their head coach Jackline Juma. The win marks a huge morale boost as they continue their survival campaign.

With only seven matches remaining, the pressure is now on Gor Mahia to shake off the distractions and reignite their title charge—before it’s too late.
