Top Chiefs Meet in Isiolo to Tackle Banditry Threat

Security chiefs convened in Isiolo today to assess and strengthen anti-banditry operations in Kenya’s Eastern and Rift Valley regions. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen led the meeting, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting security officers in addressing challenges such as cattle rustling, banditry, and drug trafficking. The session included senior officials from Isiolo, Meru, Laikipia, Samburu, and Marsabit counties, as well as national security leadership, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat and Eastern Regional Commissioner Paul Rotich .

The meeting’s focus was to evaluate the progress of ongoing security operations and to strategize on enhancing coordination among security agencies. This initiative aligns with previous efforts, such as the establishment of a new command center in Kirimon, Laikipia, aimed at combating the spill-over of criminal activities into neighboring counties, including Meru, Isiolo, and Marsabit .

Murkomen reiterated the government’s stance against political interference in security matters, warning that politicians found fueling insecurity would face legal consequences. He also highlighted the role of technology in modernizing operations, including the use of aerial surveillance and advanced equipment to enhance the effectiveness of security personnel .

The meeting underscores a unified approach to addressing security challenges in the region, with a strong emphasis on inter-agency collaboration, community involvement, and the application of modern technology to restore peace and stability.
