Public Schools to Receive Ksh21 Billion in Capitation Funds Starting Monday

The government has confirmed that public schools will begin receiving delayed capitation funds starting next Monday, providing much-needed relief to institutions grappling with financial challenges.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that the Ministry of Education has released Ksh21.8 billion in capitation grants to public basic education institutions, just days before the new academic term begins. The funds are apportioned as follows: Ksh1.62 billion for Free Primary Education, Ksh6.1 billion for Free Day Junior School Education, and Ksh14.1 billion for Free Day Secondary Education

This disbursement aims to ensure the smooth resumption of school activities and alleviate financial constraints faced by schools due to previous delays. The government has emphasized the importance of prudent use of these funds to benefit learners and maintain the integrity of the education system.

The release of these funds comes after months of pressure from education stakeholders, including parents and school administrators, who have raised concerns over the impact of delayed capitation on the quality of education. The government has assured that measures are being put in place to prevent future delays and ensure timely disbursement of funds.

As schools prepare to reopen, the timely release of capitation funds is expected to facilitate uninterrupted learning and support the government’s commitment to providing free and quality education to all children.
