President Ruto Launches Major Electrification Project to Light Up Nyeri County

President William Ruto initiated a significant electrification project in Nyeri County, Kenya, aimed at connecting 627 households to the national power grid. The initiative involves the distribution of essential materials, including transformers and poles, to facilitate the expansion of electricity access across the county.

This project is part of a broader national effort to enhance electricity connectivity, particularly in rural areas. In July 2024, the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) launched six power projects in Nyeri County, benefiting 3,552 households with an investment of Sh161.27 million. These projects spanned various constituencies, including Kieni, Mathira, Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri Town, Othaya, and Tetu, aiming to boost the local economy and improve security through enhanced lighting.

Furthermore, in January 2025, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki announced plans to connect over one million Kenyans to electricity within 20 months. During his visit to Kieni Constituency in Nyeri County, he highlighted that the government had allocated Sh733 million for the Last Mile Connectivity Project, targeting 10,903 beneficiaries. Additionally, Sh164 million was designated for connecting 1,163 households, including 101 homes in Aguthi Village.
