The National Treasury has secured a Ksh1.8 billion grant from the Chinese government to upgrade hospitals across the country. The agreement was formalized on today, with Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan signing the deal at the Treasury Building.
The grant will fund the upgrading of several key hospitals, including Londiani Referral Hospital, Baringo County Referral Hospital, Kilifi Hospital, Misikhu Hospital, Bildad Kagia Hospital, and Kaimosi Farmers Training College. This initiative aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services nationwide.
CS Mbadi expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for its continued support, highlighting that this partnership underscores the strong bilateral ties between Kenya and China. This development follows Kenya’s recent Ksh6.5 billion grant from the United Nations-backed Green Climate Fund to promote sustainable development and climate resilience.
This collaboration reflects China’s ongoing commitment to supporting Kenya’s development, particularly in the healthcare sector. Previous projects include the construction of a 112-bed hospital in Nasra Gardens within Embakasi District.
