Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has issued a directive to all school principals, prohibiting the hiring of non-teaching staff to coach students in co-curricular activities. This mandate follows the controversy at Butere Girls High School, where Cleophas Malala, a former United Democratic Alliance Secretary General without teaching credentials, was engaged to train students for a drama performance.
The Ministry of Education has cautioned that involving non-teachers in student coaching violates Teachers Service Commission regulations and compromises educational standards. Consequently, schools found in breach of this policy may face stringent actions.
