The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Kenyans to expect high average temperatures throughout the day in most regions of the nation beginning Tuesday.
From February 20 to February 26, temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, and Tana River counties.
Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui, Machakos, Nairobi, Kiambu, Embu, Laikipia, and Baringo will all have typical high temperatures of more over 30°C.
Only parts of Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Elegeyo Marakwet, Trans Nzoia, and West Pokot are projected to have typical maximum temperatures below 25°C.
Kenya has been enjoying higher daytime and nighttime temperatures as the massive rains that occurred late last year during the El Nino phenomena has faded.
The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) confirmed last week that January was the hottest on record this year.
According to a February 15 announcement from the World Meteorological Organization, sea surface temperatures have been at record highs for ten straight months.
“It was 0.70°C above the 1991-2020 average for January and 0.12°C above the temperature of the previous warmest January, in 2020, according to Copernicus Climate Change Service,” the UN meteorological agency said.
