American YouTube star and livestreamer IShowSpeed sparked excitement in Nairobi’s Central Business District on Sunday after making an unexpected appearance that drew large crowds of fans.
Hundreds of enthusiastic followers poured into the streets as the popular content creator moved through the city, with boda boda riders and motorists trailing his convoy. Fans rushed across roads and pavements, phones in hand, eager to capture photos and videos or catch a brief interaction with the streamer.
The impromptu visit briefly disrupted normal activity in parts of the CBD as crowds gathered to follow his movements.
IShowSpeed, who boasts a massive global following, was accompanied by Kenyan influencer Gen Z Goliath and Ugandan viral star Tenge Tenge. As of Sunday, his YouTube channel had attracted more than 47.9 million subscribers.
During his Nairobi stop, the American content creator took part in several activities around the city, including a high-energy motorsport challenge that further drew public attention.
His Kenya tour began with a surprise appearance at a Nairobi school, where students erupted in cheers as he interacted with them, adding to the excitement surrounding his visit.
President William Ruto welcomed the YouTuber to the country through a social media message, encouraging him to feel at home.
“Jambo IShowSpeed, welcome to Kenya, karibu Kenya,” the President said. “Kenya is not just another country. Kenya is a pulse, a feeling. Kenya is home. This is Magical Kenya, the origin of wonders.”
The Nairobi visit forms part of IShowSpeed’s ambitious Africa tour dubbed Speed Does Africa, a 28-day live-streaming journey aimed at highlighting the continent’s cultures, landscapes and people to his global audience.
The Kenyan leg marked the tour’s opening phase and featured fan interactions, football-related activities and immersive cultural experiences.
Known for his flamboyant personality and high-energy stunts, IShowSpeed has continued to draw attention across Africa by engaging with locals, collaborating with content creators and attempting daring challenges that frequently dominate online conversations.
The scale of the tour has set it apart from previous creator-led projects, with the streamer moving rapidly between countries while broadcasting live to audiences worldwide.
According to the official tour programme, IShowSpeed is expected to visit 20 African countries, including Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Kenya.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano described the visit as a major boost to Kenya’s international visibility, saying it presents an opportunity to showcase the country’s rich culture and creativity beyond traditional tourism offerings.
“Beyond our world-renowned safaris, the real magic of Kenya is found in the diversity of our people and cultures. Every corner of this country has a story worth telling,” Miano said, inviting the streamer to experience local cuisine, traditions and community life.
