Headteacher Arrested For Appearing ‘Drunk And Dirty’ At Exam Centre

A headteacher from Nthonzweni Primary School in Makueni County has been arrested following a drunken and untidy appearance at the Kaiti ACC container centre, where the exam papers are picked up every morning.

Martin Muteti was arrested after the County security team, together with County Directors of Education, made an impromptu visit to the said container, and established that Muteti had arrived at the container late while “appearing drunk and dirty.”

“He was immediately arrested and placed in police station cell Mukuyuni and subjected to alcoholic test,” a police statement on Wednesday stated.

The Kenya National Examination Council and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Makueni gave a further directive to have Muteti immediately replaced by his deputy John Kitusa.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) made it mandatory for centre managers to pick exam papers from designated container areas to seal cheating loopholes and prevent early exposure to examination papers.

The Candidates in class eight and those in grade six began their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations on Monday, October 30, and are set to complete them on Wednesday, November 1.
