Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, has been summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to appear at their headquarters in Kiambu County. The exact reason for the summons has not been independently verified, but sources suggest it relates to her alleged involvement in anti-Ruto chants on Friday evening. Wamuchomba has expressed concerns over what she perceives as attempts to intimidate allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. She stated, “We are sleeping in fear; we are driving in fear. We are not even going to churches anymore because we are fearing we might be abducted along the way.”
This development follows a series of events where Gachagua’s allies have faced alleged intimidation by state agencies. On December 5, 2024, Wamuchomba and other leaders accompanied Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa to honor DCI summons in Nyeri over chaos witnessed at a burial in Kiambu County. They have raised concerns about increased interference by security agencies in political, religious, and cultural activities. Wamuchomba emphasized, “We are getting worried. The trends at which the police interfere with the political and even the religious process is very worrying.”
