Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of engaging in a gold business partnership with Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti, the leader of Sudan’s paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Gachagua alleges that President Ruto invited Hemedti to Kenya in 2023 for personal gain, not for the nation’s interest.
Gachagua claims that the gold trade involves gold extracted from Sudan, transported to Nairobi, and then exported to Dubai. He further alleges that Sudan has threatened to halt Kenya’s tea exports in retaliation for Kenya’s involvement with the RSF.
Additionally, Gachagua asserts that during his tenure as Deputy President, President Ruto requested his assistance in facilitating a meeting with Hemedti, which he believes was focused on business dealings rather than national interests.
These allegations have raised concerns about Kenya’s international reputation and its involvement with the RSF, a group sanctioned by the international community for alleged genocide and war crimes.
