Fierce Storm Ravages Ringiti Island Leaving Homes and Schools Destroyed

Residents of Ringiti Island in Suba West Sub-County, Homa Bay County, are reeling from the aftermath of a severe storm that struck Thursday evening, unleashing heavy rainfall and powerful winds. The tempest inflicted extensive damage across the island, leaving many without shelter and essential community structures compromised.

The storm’s intensity led to significant structural damage:

  • Educational Facilities: Two classrooms at Ringiti Primary School were severely damaged, disrupting the learning environment for students.
  • Residential Homes: Nine families found themselves homeless after their roofs were torn off, forcing them to endure the night without adequate shelter.
  • Places of Worship: Both the Ringiti PEFA and SDA churches suffered roof losses, impacting communal gathering spots for spiritual solace.

In the wake of the destruction, community leaders are appealing for support: Daniel Sure, Secretary of the Ringiti Beach Management Unit, expressed deep concern over the extensive damage and emphasized the urgent need for assistance.

Residents are calling upon well-wishers, governmental bodies, and non-governmental organizations to aid in the swift restoration of their homes, educational institutions, and places of worship.
