Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has dismissed Agriculture Minister Mac-Albert Hengari following reports that he is under investigation for alleged rape. The president’s office announced the decision on Sunday, stating that Hengari’s removal from office will take effect from April 23, 2025. A police spokesperson confirmed that an investigation had been opened into Hengari, though details of the case have not been publicly disclosed.
The allegations against Hengari reportedly involve an incident that allegedly occurred five years ago, when the woman was still a minor. The accusations surfaced after a complaint was lodged by Windhoek-based doctors, who wrote to the president last week.

Hengari has not publicly commented on the allegations. The dismissal comes amid growing scrutiny over the vetting process for cabinet appointees, with questions raised about whether the seriousness of the allegations was adequately considered during Hengari’s appointment.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability in public office, stating that the government is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that those in positions of power are held to the highest standards of conduct.
As the investigation continues, the Namibian public and international observers will be closely watching how the government handles the case and whether further actions will be taken against Hengari.
