Dala 7s: Kisumu RFC Sends Rallying Call as Festival of Rugby, Culture, and Community begins

As the highly anticipated Dala 7s weekend approaches, Kisumu Rugby Football Club has issued a heartfelt invitation to fans, businesses, and the wider public to come out in numbers and be part of what promises to be a memorable experience — not only on the rugby pitch, but across the entire spectrum of entertainment and community engagement.

Speaking to LTN Sports ahead of the tournament, Kisumu RFC chairman Dr. Gabriel Ouma painted a vivid picture of inclusivity and regional pride. “It will be a good experience for us. We’ve deliberately given priority to our local vendors and businesses. Over 90% of those who will benefit from this year’s Dala 7s are from this region,” Dr. Ouma remarked, emphasizing the club’s commitment to empowering the local economy.

Dr. Ouma underscored that the event is more than just a rugby fixture; it is a holistic community celebration. “We still have opportunities for vendors. If you have a business you’d like to showcase, our lines are open. We’ve rolled out attractive exhibition packages with great value,” he said, urging entrepreneurs to seize the moment.

The event will also cater to families and children, with a specially curated “Toto’s Corner” for the little ones, making Dala 7s a truly inclusive affair. Entertainment is also well covered, with top local artists scheduled to perform. “Costa Ojwang’, one of Kisumu’s finest talents, will perform on Saturday, and Odongo Swag will light up the stage on Sunday,” Ouma announced, urging fans not to be left behind.

Anne Wanjiru, the Dala 7s Organizing Secretary, echoed the chairman’s sentiments, describing the tournament as “an experience, a name, and the best regional event ever.” She called on fans to take advantage of group ticket offers currently available on the official website. “After the ‘sarakasi ya uwanja’ (drama on the field), we head to ‘sarakasi ya mwili’ ; letting loose and unwinding. So karibuni sana!” she quipped, with characteristic enthusiasm.

From the playing unit, the message is equally passionate. Kisumu RFC Team manager Thomas Ogallo affirmed that the team is not only physically ready, but also emotionally connected to the occasion. “Wan Dala – we are home,” he declared. “Our players will have their parents, their girlfriends, their relatives in the crowd, and they want to give them a show. We’re aiming to reach at least the quarterfinals, but more importantly, we want to give our fans a spectacle worth their support.”

With both the main squad and a second team set to compete in the Division Two category, Kisumu RFC is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the community gets full value. “We want fans to feel proud not just of the performances on the pitch, but of the entire weekend — from rugby to music to local enterprise,” Ogallo concluded.
