Kenyan football is mourning the loss of veteran coach Juma Abdalla, one of the country’s most respected tacticians, who passed away after a courageous battle with illness.

Over a coaching career spanning more than two decades, Abdalla earned a reputation for his tactical brilliance, professionalism and commitment to developing players. He managed several clubs across the Kenyan Premier League and National Super League, including Thika United, KCB FC, Bidco United, Chemelil Sugar, Western Stima, FC Talanta, Vihiga Bullets and Murang’a SEAL. He also served as assistant coach at AFC Leopards.

One of the standout chapters of his career came at KCB FC, where he took charge ahead of the 2013 Kenyan Premier League season. Under his guidance, the Bankers established themselves among the league’s top sides, a feat that saw him crowned the Kenyan Premier League Coach of the Year.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed led the tributes, describing Abdalla as a mentor whose influence extended far beyond the football pitch.

“We mourn the loss of Coach Juma Abdallah, a true pillar of Kenyan football, renowned tactician and mentor who’s impact went beyond the pitch. He nurtured and inspired many players, built teams with character, and served the game with passion.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. The football community has lost a great leader, but his legacy will continue to live on.

Murang’a SEAL, one of the last clubs he coached, also paid an emotional tribute to their former head coach.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former Head Coach Juma Abdalla.

A respected leader, mentor, and passionate football man, Coach Juma left an indelible mark on our club and the many lives he touched throughout his career.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life dedicated to shaping players, inspiring teams, and serving the game he loved.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, former players, and the entire football fraternity.

May his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.

Juma Abdalla will be remembered as one of Kenya’s finest football minds, leaving behind a legacy that transcends trophies through the countless players, coaches and clubs he influenced during his distinguished career.

According to his family, Abdalla passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Friday and will be laid to rest later the same day at 4:00 p.m. in Murang’a Town.
