UDA Targets Orwoba Over Matiang’i Welcome Amid Court Intervention

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba is set to appear before the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) disciplinary committee today, Friday, May 16, 2025. The summons stem from her participation in the welcoming of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and his subsequent homecoming event at Gusii Stadium.

UDA has accused Orwoba of actions that allegedly contravene the party’s code of conduct, citing her attendance at these events as demonstrations of allegiance to a political rival. Additionally, her critical remarks during an April 22 interview on Spice FM, where she questioned the government’s labor mobility program, have further fueled tensions .

However, a recent High Court ruling has temporarily halted the disciplinary proceedings against Orwoba. The court issued the suspension today, granting the senator temporary relief from the party’s actions .

As the disciplinary hearing proceeds, the legal and political implications of this case continue to unfold, potentially influencing the dynamics within UDA and its relationship with its members
