Safaricom Champions Early Savings Culture for Kids at M-PESA Jr. NBA Tournament in Eldoret

Safaricom is calling on parents to introduce their children to the importance of saving and investing from an early age, highlighting the significance of financial literacy in shaping a responsible financial future.

The message was shared during the M-PESA Jr. NBA Tournament in Eldoret, where over 450 young players also took part in a financial literacy training session. Racheal Bosibori, a Customer Journey Expert at M-PESA Go, stressed the value of teaching children about money management as early as 10 years old.

“It’s crucial for parents to instill the principles of saving in their children from a young age. With the M-PESA Go app, we are helping equip young people with the skills to manage money, budget, and save,” Bosibori explained at the event.

The financial literacy training session, held alongside the regional tournament at Uasin Gishu High School, provided valuable lessons to over 450 participants. It aimed to give them foundational skills in money management, preparing them for a financially savvy future.

The tournament featured 40 teams, with more than 450 boys and girls competing in fast-paced 5×5 knockout games. The winners will receive smartphones and airtime, courtesy of Safaricom M-PESA.

Through this initiative, Safaricom continues its mission to empower the next generation with the tools they need for financial success.
