Round 9 of the FKF National Super League delivered the kind of twists that shape a season, with comebacks, missed penalties, late drama, and a tightening race at the top. Across two action-packed days, clubs pushed through heat, pressure, and travelling fatigue as the table shifted once again.
At Ruaraka, Talanta FC produced one of the weekend’s most spirited recoveries after Soy United stunned them with an early breakthrough just five minutes in. Soy settled quickly and looked on course for another big scalp before Talanta regrouped at halftime. Brian Lusamukha dragged Talanta level in the fifty third minute, smashing momentum back their way. Eleven minutes later Alex Kipruto completed the turnaround with a composed finish that sent the home fans roaring. The contest wasn’t without turbulence as Talanta were reduced to ten men in the eightieth minute when Iyan Nyongesa collected a second yellow card, but the hosts held firm to secure a comeback that steadies their season.

Naivas and MOFA battled through ninety minutes at KIHBT without finding a winning touch, their goalless draw reflecting both caution and missed opportunities in a fixture where neither side wanted to blink first.
Down at the coast, Mombasa United continued their powerful start with a comfortable two goal victory over Equity Bank. Mabea’s well taken penalty in the thirty sixth minute opened the way before Onchiri doubled the advantage with a beautiful strike early in the second half. The hosts dominated large phases of the game, always looking more threatening and enjoying the confidence of a team chasing the summit with conviction. Equity, who had looked lively last weekend, failed to trouble Mombasa’s back line and walked away frustrated. The victory keeps Mombasa second on the log, just a point behind leaders Migori Youth and applying real pressure.
Nairobi City Stars found their rhythm again, grinding out a much needed win away to Mwatate United. Amunike struck in the forty eighth minute to open the scoring, and though his second was ruled offside shortly after, City Stars remained in control. Mwatate earned a penalty in the fifty second minute but failed to capitalise, a miss that shifted the match’s emotional weight. City Stars introduced Luvanda in the fifty seventh minute and he returned the favour by striking deep into stoppage time to seal a professional two goal victory that breathes life back into their campaign.
At Kirinyaga Grounds the Mlima derby lived up to its reputation for fire and grit. Fortune Sacco edged Kabati Youth thanks to Collins Maina’s twenty seventh minute finish, pouncing on a loose ball from twenty yards to score his seventh of the season and further cement his place among the league’s most reliable forwards. It was enough to hand Fortune an important win and bragging rights in the mountain rivalry.

Sunday’s fixtures brought their own storms. Nzoia Sugar responded strongly after last weekend’s wobble, taking control against Kisumu AllStars in Bungoma. Ezekiel Simiyu broke the deadlock in the thirty seventh minute before Obed Khakina won and scored a penalty shortly before halftime. Khakina’s afternoon later soured as he was sent off in the eighty sixth minute, but Nzoia had already done enough to collect the points as AllStars’ momentum from their first win of the season stalled.
At Ndulani, MCF edged Luanda Villa with a single goal that keeps the middle pack congested, while in Ngong Kibera Black Stars’ crisis deepened after falling one nil to Darajani Gogo. Kibera have now lost three straight matches without scoring, tumbling from second to sixth and watching their early season hype fade rapidly. Their inability to convert chances and maintain composure in key moments has left supporters worried and rivals emboldened.
In Embu, 3K FC continued their strong run as Oscar Juma struck in the third minute to secure all three points against Gucha Stars. The early goal was enough for the Embu side to maintain their grip in the top positions, with their structure and discipline once again proving decisive.
The round closed at Awendo Green Stadium where league leaders Migori Youth were forced to settle for a one all draw against Vihiga United. After a goalless first half, Migori introduced Churchill Chicha Otieno who immediately changed the game by setting up Geoffrey Odira’s opener in the fifty second minute. The home fans sensed another routine win but Vihiga dug deep and equalised in the seventy seventh minute to silence the stadium. Migori pressed late on but could not restore their lead, dropping points that now allow Mombasa United to breathe harder down their neck. Migori will quickly shift focus to a tricky date against Darajani Gogo next weekend.
