NSL: Migori Youth Reassert Control as MOFA Stun Mombasa United

Round 10 of the FKF National Super League delivered one of the most dramatic weekends of the season, a matchday that shifted momentum across the division and tightened the promotion contest in almost every corner of the table.

League leaders Migori Youth reclaimed full control of the title race with a gritty 2–1 victory away to Darajani Gogo at the Marist Grounds. Coming into the match after dropping points at home, Migori arrived under pressure, aware that anything less than a win would risk surrendering their position at the summit. Samuel “Otulo” Owano kept faith with most of the side that started in Awendo, making only one change as Churchill “Chicha” Otieno replaced Kennedy “Warren” Odhiambo.

Migori Youth struck with purpose from the opening whistle, and it took just nine minutes for Syphas Otieno to give the visitors the lead after finishing a well-threaded move with composure. They continued to threaten, with Syphas forcing a big save in the 40th minute, but a lapse at the back handed Gogo an unexpected equaliser just before the break. Migori responded instantly, Syphas reacting sharply inside the box in stoppage time to restore the advantage before halftime. Migori controlled long stretches of the second half, with Tyson heading narrowly wide and Churchill supplying dangerous deliveries from the flank, while Ologi twice came close to extending the advantage late on. Gogo pushed but lacked the sharpness to break Migori again, and despite a tense finish, the leaders held firm to secure an important victory that solidifies their grip on top spot.

In Kisumu, MOFA produced the shock of the round by dismantling second-placed Mombasa United 4–0 in a performance that may define their season. From the first whistle, MOFA looked sharper and more aggressive, turning early territorial advantage into a wave of attacks led by the energetic Bulimo. The opener came in the 26th minute when league top scorer Laban Otieno rose to meet Amunga’s pinpoint cross, guiding a clean header into the net. Rodgers almost doubled the lead before halftime, but MOFA did not have to wait long after the restart to stamp their authority.Japheth “Odo” Odoke struck in the 52nd minute, finishing confidently after sustained pressure, and just four minutes later he added his second after another well-constructed move. Substitute Ogutu made it 3–0 after a clever run from Vincent Odhiambo ended with a low cross perfectly placed for him to tuck home. Barely a minute later, Laban completed his brace, reacting quickly inside the box to seal the rout. Keeper Paul Ochieng ensured the clean sheet remained intact with smart late handling. The emphatic victory not only dents Mombasa United’s charge but also positions MOFA firmly among the early top-five challengers.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Nairobi City Stars were held to a 1–1 draw by Nzoia Sugar in Karen, while Equity bounced back impressively from their Round 9 defeat by beating MCF 3–1 at Ruaraka.Sunday added its own share of twists. Fortune Sacco continued their steady rise with a narrow 1–0 win over Vihiga United in Kisumu, a result built on discipline and clinical execution. Gucha Stars pleased the home supporters with a confident 2–0 win over Mwatate United, easing pressure in the lower half of the table, while Soy United stunned high-flying 3K FC with a 1–0 upset in Eldoret, a result that disrupts 3K’s strong momentum.

Luanda Villa delivered an assertive 2–0 win over Naivas, who continue to struggle in front of goal, while Kisumu AllStars produced one of the day’s standout results by overcoming Talanta FC 1–0 courtesy of Mark’s 70th-minute strike from an Eugine assist. The victory marks AllStars’ second win of the campaign and a timely boost after back-to-back losses.

Kabati Youth rounded off the weekend with a hard-earned 1–0 win over Kibera Black Stars side that has now gone four consecutive matches without scoring.

By the final whistle across all venues, Round 10 had delivered storylines everywhere ,title contenders responding under pressure, mid-table sides rediscovering belief, and struggling teams showing signs of life. With momentum shifting rapidly, the NSL table continues to tighten, setting the stage for an even more unpredictable Round 10
