Members of Parliament (MPs) have expressed concern over the continued involvement of a private company in managing the e-Citizen platform, which offers over 16,000 government services. This development comes two years after the state secured a court ruling affirming its ownership of the platform.
During a session with the National Assembly Committee on Finance and Planning, National Treasury officials were questioned about the private company’s ongoing role in moderating the platform. MPs sought clarification on whether the Ministry was effectively overseeing the platform’s operations and expenditures.
In response, the parliamentary committee has directed the National Treasury to provide the contractual documents between the government and the private company managing the e-Citizen platform.
The e-Citizen platform serves as a centralized portal for accessing various government services, aiming to streamline processes and enhance efficiency for citizens. The ongoing scrutiny underscores the need for transparency and accountability in the management of such critical public services.
