The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has launched the revised Code of Conduct for Media Practice 2025, a pivotal step to strengthen ethical standards and protect vulnerable populations in the country’s media landscape.
The new code was unveiled at a function presided over by Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo during the Annual Media Summit held at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi.

The revised code introduces comprehensive ethical guidelines aimed at enhancing the protection of minors and vulnerable populations in the media. It emphasizes responsible journalism practices, discourages the glorification of violence, crime, and conflict, and encourages the production of local content in Kenyan media outlets. The code also addresses emerging issues such as artificial intelligence, data protection, and user-generated content.

MCK CEO David Omwoyo highlighted the importance of the revised code in aligning with the rapidly changing media landscape and ensuring that journalistic practices uphold national values and public interest.
The launch of the revised code marks a significant milestone in MCK’s ongoing efforts to promote ethical journalism and safeguard the rights of vulnerable groups in Kenya
