Kibera Black Stars Halt MOFA Run as Migori Youth Claim Mozzart/Nyanza Derby Bragging Rights

Sunday’s FKF National Super League (NSL) fixtures wrapped up Matchday 3 in style, with Kibera Black Stars ending MOFA’s unbeaten start, Migori Youth edging a dramatic Mozzart Derby in Awendo, and Kabati Youth recording a crucial home win.

At Hope Centre in Kawangware, Kibera Black Stars handed MOFA FC their first defeat of the season with a hard-fought 1–0 victory. The decisive moment came just before halftime when Brian “Labile” Odhiambo unleashed a powerful long-range strike in first-half stoppage time to give the hosts the lead. Despite MOFA pushing hard after the restart, Kibera stood firm. Substitute Dalton Owino came on early in the second half as Black Stars looked to protect their advantage, and they nearly doubled it in the 60th minute when Bundi’s thunderous shot forced a brilliant save from the MOFA goalkeeper.

The narrow win marked a solid response from Kibera after a mixed start to the campaign, while MOFA’s three-match unbeaten streak came to an end, though they remain among the early contenders in the NSL standings.

In Awendo, Migori Youth prevailed 2–1 over Kisumu All Stars in a fiery Nyanza showdown dubbed the Mozzart Nyanza Derby. The visitors drew first blood in the 54th minute through Wyclif Opuro, but Migori Youth rallied with an inspired comeback. Geoffrey Odira equalized in the 70th minute before Elvis Wafula completed the turnaround seven minutes later.

The closing stages were marred by chaos on the touchline, with the Kisumu All Stars coach shown a red card amid heated protests, but Migori held on to preserve their perfect start to the season.

Elsewhere, Kabati Youth claimed a 1–0 win over Nairobi City Stars, with Joshua Amunike ironically scoring against his former side to seal the points for the newcomers. The victory was Kabati’s first at home this season and a vital confidence boost after a challenging start to life in the second tier.

At Wundanyi, Mwatate United fell 0–3 to MFC, who continue to build momentum with back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, Fortune Sacco and Nzoia Sugar battled to a goalless draw in Kerugoya — a result that highlighted both teams’ defensive resilience but did little to lift either side up the standings.

With Matchday 3 now complete, Mombasa United remain top of the table on goal difference, closely followed by Migori Youth. MOFA drop out of the top three after their weekend defeat, while Kibera Black Stars move level on points with them. The NSL continues to serve up tight, competitive encounters each week, setting the stage for another thrilling round next weekend.
