Onchiri Magic Lifts Mombasa United as Defenses Dominate NSL Saturday Duels, Action Resumes Today

Round Three of the 2025/26 FKF National Super League got underway on Saturday with three tightly contested matches, producing just one goal across all fixtures. It was a day where defenses stood tall, attackers were frustrated, and Mombasa United continued to underline their early-season dominance.

At the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, Mombasa United edged Luanda Villa 1-0 to claim their third successive victory of the campaign. The hosts, who came into the game brimming with confidence after back-to-back wins, found the breakthrough through Nehemiah Onchiri’s well-taken free kick , a strike that proved decisive in maintaining their perfect start to the season. The win keeps Mombasa United top of the standings on superior goal difference, further solidifying their early title credentials.

Elsewhere, at Dandora Stadium, FC Talanta and 3K FC battled to a goalless stalemate in a match that offered intensity but little in terms of finishing. Both sides created promising openings, but resolute defending and wastefulness in front of goal ensured that the spoils were shared. For 3K, it was another hard-earned point on the road, while Talanta will be left ruing missed opportunities to collect maximum points at home.

In Kisumu, Vihiga United and Naivas FC also settled for a 0-0 draw at Kenyatta Stadium. The match saw Naivas stretch their unbeaten run to three matches, although the side dropped points for the first time this season. Vihiga, on the other hand, will take positives from a disciplined defensive showing after conceding in both their opening fixtures.

The weekend’s action continues today with five matches lined up on Sunday. Newcomers Kabati Youth FC host Nairobi City Stars in Thika, Mwatate United welcome MCF FC to Wundanyi, and Fortune Sacco face Nzoia Sugar FC in Kerugoya. In Awendo, Migori Youth will look to maintain their perfect start when they take on Kisumu All Stars at Green Stadium, while Kibera Black Stars host the in-form MOFA at Hope Centre, Kawangware.

With Mombasa United setting the early pace ,several unbeaten sides still in contention, the NSL’s third round is shaping up as another fascinating chapter in what’s already proving to be a highly competitive season .
