A fairytale was completed on Sunday afternoon at Ulinzi Sports Complex as National Super League champions Nairobi United stunned Gor Mahia 2–1 to win the 2025 Mozzart Bet Cup , just days after winning NSL , completing a double in style.
The Naibois struck early, setting the tone in the 6th minute through Frank Ouya, who capitalized on a quick attacking move to fire past Gor Mahia goalkeeper Kevin Omondi and put the NSL champions ahead. It was a shock start that set the crowd abuzz.

Gor Mahia responded steadily and eventually equalized in the 37th minute through BenStanley Omondi. The midfielder unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box that beat Nairobi United’s Ernest Mohammed ; a screamer that lifted the Green Army and leveled the tie before the break.
The teams went into halftime locked at 1–1, but the best was yet to come. In the 73rd minute, former FC Talanta midfielder Enock Machaka restored Nairobi United’s lead with another long-range rocket : a sensational goal from outside the 18-yard area that once again left Kevin Omondi rooted. It proved to be the winner.

Drama unfolded in the closing stages as both teams had goals ruled out for offside ,Gor Mahia’s early in the second half, and Nairobi United’s third chalked off shortly after their second. The defining moment, however, came in the 85th minute when Gor Mahia were awarded a penalty. With the chance to level and force extra time, Alpha Onyango stepped up , but his effort was brilliantly saved by Ernest Mohammed, preserving the Naibois’ lead.
Despite Gor Mahia piling on late pressure, Nairobi United held firm, defending as a unit and showing the grit and maturity of seasoned contenders. At the final whistle, scenes of jubilation erupted among Nairobi United players, coaches, and fans. From Division One in 2023 to Mozzart Bet Cup winners in 2025 : their rise has been nothing short of astonishing.
The win earned Nairobi United Ksh 2 million in prize money and, more importantly, a historic ticket to represent Kenya in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup. They eliminated Tusker, KCB, Kakamega Homeboyz, Mara Sugar, and now Gor Mahia in a run that cements their status as the tournament’s undisputed giant killers.
For Gor Mahia, it was heartbreak and disappointment. The team missed out on the league title earlier in the season and now finish the campaign trophyless, despite a passionate turnout from thousands of fans who painted Ulinzi Sports Complex green and white.
