FIFA has formally rejected attempts by Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) members to suspend the federation’s president and Acting CEO/General Secretary, citing serious violations of the FKF Constitution and warning of possible disciplinary consequences.
In a strongly worded letter dated May 25, 2026 and addressed to FKF NEC members, FIFA stated that the process followed in handling the matter failed to comply with Article 41 of the 2017 FKF Constitution, which governs the provisional suspension or dismissal of federation officials.
The world football governing body noted that despite earlier requests for clarification, the information and documentation submitted by FKF officials did not demonstrate that the required constitutional procedures had been followed. FIFA therefore declared that it “categorically rejects the procedure” used in the matter.
According to FIFA, any mandatory directive requiring an official to temporarily vacate office amounts to a provisional suspension and must strictly adhere to constitutional safeguards. These include proper justification, inclusion of the matter in the official agenda, communication to NEC members, observance of voting and quorum requirements, and granting affected individuals the right to be heard before any action is taken.
FIFA emphasized that such requirements are not optional and form part of the essential principles of due process, legality and institutional integrity within football governance.
The governing body further stated that it cannot recognize decisions made outside the constitutional framework, insisting that actions taken without full compliance with Article 41 cannot produce valid legal effects within FKF.
FIFA also cautioned FKF leaders against making rushed decisions that could destabilize the federation, especially given Kenya football’s history of institutional wrangles. The letter urged all FKF members and officials to exercise restraint, responsibility and respect for constitutional processes in order to safeguard the federation’s stability, credibility and proper functioning.
Additionally, FIFA warned that individuals found to have acted in breach of the FKF Constitution, rules and regulations could face disciplinary action from the federation’s competent judicial bodies.
The letter was signed by FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov and copied to CAF, underlining the seriousness with which the matter is being treated at the international level.
