Gachagua Alleges State Plot to Assassinate Him

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has raised alarm over what he describes as a well-orchestrated plot to end his life. In a detailed statement released on Today, Gachagua accused the State of deliberately withdrawing his security detail, leaving him vulnerable to attacks by organized criminal gangs.

Gachagua’s allegations come after a series of incidents where his safety was reportedly compromised. In November 2024, he claimed that his security was withdrawn following his impeachment, exposing him to potential harm. He also alleged that during a funeral in Limuru, he was attacked by a group of individuals, an incident he believes was a planned assassination attempt. He further claimed that his homes in Nairobi and Mathira were being guarded by volunteers, including retired officers from various security agencies, after the government withdrew his official security detail.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Gachagua to record a statement regarding his assassination claims. The DCI emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and assured that the matter would be handled with the utmost seriousness.

Gachagua has publicly stated that if anything were to happen to him, President William Ruto should be held accountable. He has also criticized the government’s actions, describing them as cruel and unprecedented.
