Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) conducted coordinated raids on the office and residence of Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, as well as the premises of nine senior county officials. The operation is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of embezzlement of public funds and conflicts of interest within the county government.
The EACC has not disclosed the specific nature of the evidence seized during the raids. However, the commission has previously investigated similar cases involving irregular tender awards and fraudulent procurement practices. For instance, in 2025, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu was convicted in a Ksh588 million road contract scandal, highlighting the EACC’s commitment to addressing corruption at the county level.
The raids have intensified scrutiny on Governor Wamatangi, who has faced previous calls for investigation. In 2024, Members of Parliament, including Kimani Ichung’wah, urged the EACC to probe the governor over alleged financial mismanagement, such as the questionable purchase of 60,000 chicks for Ksh18 million, with only half delivered.
As investigations continue, the EACC has emphasized its commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency in the use of public resources. The outcome of this probe could have significant implications for governance and anti-corruption efforts in Kiambu County.
