Embakasi Explosion: 7 In Critical Condition As Death Toll Reaches 6

Three additional persons have died as a result of injuries experienced during the Embakasi gas explosion, increasing the total number of victims to six.

According to a statement from Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, seven additional individuals are in serious condition at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

KUTRRH has seen a total of 27 patients, with eight previously released and 19 still in treatment, comprising 10 males, 6 females, and 3 kids.

One of these patients is serious owing to severe burns and inhalation damage. A pregnant woman and a four-year-old child are also receiving medical treatment.

At KNH, the situation remains serious but under control. The hospital received 67 patients as a result of the event, six of whom were in serious condition due to severe burn injuries.

The hospital has released 27 patients, while 34 others are still receiving care in other wards. The patients are receiving a variety of therapies, including wound care, dressing, and pain management, as well as rehabilitation consultations with physiotherapists.

The multi-agency response provided 761 clients at the Embakasi Social Hall with direct supplies, including vital commodities like rice, beans, blankets, jikos, sleeping mats, bar soap, kitchen sets, corned meat, and sanitary towels.

Currently, 28 families, consisting of 30 people and 19 children (6 male, 17 female, and 16 children), are seeking refuge at the Social Hall.

Mwaura also requested that persons who lost their documents and certificates in the disaster register at the Embakasi Social Hall so that the government may enable replacement through the National Registration Bureau (NRB) and other authorities such as KNEC.
