With effect from Monday, February 5, 2024, unregistered M-Pesa customers will not be able to receive money, according to a statement from Safaricom.

The mobile service provider claimed in a news release that registered M-Pesa customers would be able to send and receive money without any trouble at all, even while interacting with various mobile money providers like Airtel and T-Kash.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash,” the statement read.

Customers who haven’t signed up for mobile money services yet are being urged by Safaricom to do so right away.

The procedure is straightforward and just needs that you visit any M-Pesa agent or Safaricom shop with a valid identity document.

“We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Document,” Safaricom urged.
