range Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Boyd Were has been declared the winner of the Kasipul Constituency parliamentary by-election after securing 16,819 votes.
Constituency Returning Officer Rebecca Abwaku announced the results early Friday at the Agoro Sare High School tallying centre.
Were came in well ahead of his closest challenger, independent candidate Philip Aroko, who garnered 8,476 votes. Collins Omondi Okeyo of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) finished third with 4,796 votes.
Other candidates received the following votes:
- Robert Money Bior – 519
- Issack Kiche – 201
- Ishmael Omondi Koyoo – 98
- Rateng Okoth Kotiende – 72
- Jesse Okello – 55
- Jaezmen Linda Aoko – 26
- Robert Ouma – 17
After receiving his certificate, Boyd thanked the people of Kasipul for entrusting him with the leadership role previously held by his late father, Ong’ondo Were, who died in April. He pledged to build on the development agenda championed by his father.
Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga hailed the victory as a strong affirmation of ODM’s influence in the region. She said her administration will work closely with the MP-elect to accelerate development in Kasipul.
