Three cholera cases have been recorded in Kuria West sub-county, Migori County.
Julius Nyerere, the county executive for the health department, reported that two of the patients who had illness were released from the hospital after making a full recovery. One patient is still undergoing treatment there.
Nyerere stated that they believe Tanzania, a neighboring nation, is the source of the cholera cases.
He added that in order to address the potential spread of cholera, the county diseases monitoring team has been sent to several locations around the county.
According to Nyerere, appropriate measures are being developed to address the illnesses’ transboundary spread between Tanzania and Kenya.
In the meanwhile, the public has been urged by the county executive in the health department to uphold strict hygiene standards in order to avoid getting sick.
As a preventive precaution, he stated, the people has to make sure they consume heated meals and drink treated water.
In Migori County in 2023, over 50 individuals recovered from cholera, while eight people died from the disease.
