Raila Engages Gusii Leaders Amidst Political Reassessment

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is actively engaging with supporters and leaders in Kenya’s Gusii region, encompassing Kisii and Nyamira counties. This initiative is part of his broader efforts to reassess his political direction following his recent loss in the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson race.

Raila met with party delegates from the region at the Kisii Agricultural Training Centre. The meeting was led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, who is also one of ODM’s deputy party leaders. Governor Arati expressed that the region was honored to host Raila for strategic discussions aimed at determining the way forward after the AUC election.

The discussions addressed several pressing issues, including healthcare funding, county resource allocation, and infrastructure development. Raila highlighted concerns over the Social Health Authority (SHA) and addressed the financial constraints impacting county governments, noting reduced allocations to county assemblies.

Following his engagements in the Gusii region, Raila is scheduled to visit Narok County to meet delegates from the Maa community, continuing his nationwide consultative tour to gather grassroots support before making a definitive stance on his political future.
