‘I Am Not Safe’: Gachagua Claims Government Withdrew His Security

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has claimed that the government has withdrawn his personal security, warning that the move has left his life at risk despite his continued prominence in national politics.

Speaking on Monday, Gachagua said the decision to pull his security detail was unjustified and dangerous, arguing that his public stature and political influence still require state protection.

“I want to tell the people of Kenya that Rigathi Gachagua is not safe. The government withdrew my security despite my senior status in this country,” he said.

Gachagua maintained that although he is no longer in office, he remains a high-profile national leader with significant public support, which he said makes him vulnerable without adequate protection.

“Even though I was removed from office, I still command a serious following. Millions of Kenyans support me. I am a senior leader, and I deserve security because of my long service in public life and my role in shaping the next presidential election,” he added.

The former Deputy President linked the withdrawal of his security to political differences with the current administration, particularly over leadership and unity within the Mt Kenya region.

He claimed the move was part of a broader strategy aimed at undermining his political influence by creating divisions within the Mt Kenya voting bloc.

“The plan is to divide the mountain between Mt Kenya East and Mt Kenya West, and at times even tell Kiambu to remove itself from the mountain,” Gachagua alleged.

Gachagua said his continued political engagements in the region, which he described as efforts to promote unity, have made him a target.

He insisted that restoring his security is necessary not only for his personal safety but also in recognition of his stature and active involvement in national political affairs.

The government has yet to publicly respond to the claims.
