Police Officers Charged with Murder of Indian Nationals and Kenyan Taxi Driver

Fifteen police officers, formerly attached to the now-disbanded Special Service Unit (SSU) of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), have been charged with the murder of two Indian nationals and their Kenyan taxi driver. The victims—Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, Mohammed Zaid Sami, and Nicodemus Mwania Mwange—were abducted and killed in July 2022.

The accused officers are facing three counts of murder each, with the charges approved by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The court has ordered that they undergo mental assessments before taking their pleas.

The incident has raised significant concerns about police conduct and the integrity of law enforcement agencies in Kenya. The community and the international community are closely monitoring the case, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
