Senator Omtatah Sues Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto Over Alleged Ksh 6.9 Trillion Debt Mismanagement

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has initiated legal action against former President Uhuru Kenyatta and current President William Ruto, accusing them of mismanaging public funds that led to an inflated national debt. Omtatah claims that when Kibaki left office, the national debt stood at Ksh 2.7 trillion, but it has now surged to approximately Ksh 12 trillion under the Jubilee and Kenya Kwanza administrations. He alleges that this increase resulted from loans that either never benefited the public or were misappropriated. The senator is seeking the recovery of Ksh 4.6 trillion from Kenyatta and Ksh 2.3 trillion from Ruto, demanding accountability for the alleged financial discrepancies.

In a related development, Omtatah has filed a case challenging the Finance Bill, which is crucial for implementing the national budget. He argues that several provisions of the bill are unconstitutional and that the national debt may have been overpaid by more than Ksh 1 trillion. The senator calls for a comprehensive audit of public debt to identify and recover funds misappropriated through fraudulent loans and offshore accounts.
