The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is set to embark on a crucial phase of its grassroots elections, with ward-level polls scheduled to begin on Monday, April 7, 2025. This election process is part of the party’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership structure at the grassroots level across all 47 counties.
Initially planned for April 2024, the elections were postponed due to widespread flooding that affected various regions. After thorough assessments and preparations, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) has now confirmed the new election date.
The grassroots elections will focus on selecting officials for 30 key positions, with each polling unit electing members for three primary committees:
- Mainstream Committee: This includes positions such as Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, Women Leader, Youth Leader, and three Committee Members.
- Women’s League: Positions up for election include Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, and three Committee Members.
- Youth League: This includes positions such as Chairperson, Secretary, Organizing Secretary, Treasurer, and three Committee Members.
Polling will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will involve either consensus or a show of hands, depending on the preferences of the polling unit. Party members are urged to verify their membership and familiarize themselves with the election guidelines through the USSD code 483036#.
This grassroots electoral process marks a significant milestone for ODM as it seeks to solidify its presence and ensure fair representation across all levels of the party. Members are encouraged to participate in a peaceful and orderly manner, upholding the values of unity and democratic fairness throughout the election period.
