NSL Round 4 Review: Migori Youth Maintain Top Spot, 3K End Mombasa United’s Unbeaten Run

Matchday Four of the National Super League (NSL) produced defining moments as Migori Youth continued their strong start to the 2025/26 FKF National Super League season, extending their lead at the top after a hard-fought 1–0 victory away to Mully Children’s Family (MCF) in Machakos.

Elvis Wafula scored three minutes into the second half (48′) to hand the Awendo-based side their fourth straight victory of the campaign. Having travelled over 400 kilometers, Migori Youth once again showcased their resilience and winning edge to stay perfect 4 matches, 4 wins, 12 points, a flawless beginning to their promotion chase.

Saturday’s fixtures across the country offered plenty of drama. At Awendo Green Stadium, Gucha Stars celebrated their maiden NSL win after edging Vihiga United 2–1 in a rain-soaked encounter. Vincent Nyabuto was the star of the afternoon, netting a brace , the opener in the 12th minute and the winner in the 70th after Vihiga had drawn level early in the second half. The result marked a dream start to NSL life for the newly promoted side.

At Hope Centre Kawangware, Fortune Sacco made their early pressure count to secure a 1–0 win over Equity Bank. A short corner routine between Askoe and Matete was brilliantly converted by Collins in the seventh minute, and the Kirinyaga-based side held firm to take all three points.

Over in Homabay, MOFA and Darajani Gogo played out a goalless draw at ROSH Grounds in an emotionally charged match that paused briefly in the 80th minute for a moment of silence in honour of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga. MOFA, who had enjoyed a perfect start before their previous defeat to Kibera Black Stars, have now gone two matches without scoring.

In Nairobi, Naivas FC maintained their strong form with a commanding 3–1 win over Mwatate United at KIHBT Grounds. Francis Nambute opened the scoring in the 28th minute, Emmanuel Lunalo doubled the advantage just before halftime, and Kelvin Mwangi sealed it in the 68th minute. Mwatate’s consolation from Adnan in the 78th did little to change the outcome as Naivas climbed to second on 10 points. The retail side, twice unlucky in past playoff heartbreaks, look well on course under the new FKF rule that grants automatic promotion to the top three teams.

Sunday’s fixtures continued the weekend action with equally gripping encounters. In Embu, Mombasa United’s unbeaten run was halted after a 2–0 defeat to 3K FC at Moi Stadium. The Mozzart-sponsored hosts looked sharp throughout, with captain Dante opening the scoring in the 38th minute before Wahinya added a second in the 74th. It was a strong display from 3K, who registered their second home win of the campaign.

At Mumboha Grounds, Luanda Villa edged Kabati Youth 2–1 in another tight contest. Dorreck Otieno put Villa ahead in the 13th minute before Dylan Wakake doubled the advantage just before halftime. Kabati’s late goal through Bancy proved only a consolation as the hosts held on for back-to-back home victories.

In Ngong’, Kibera Black Stars outlasted City Stars 3–2 in a thrilling Nairobi derby at Vapour Grounds. Fidel Castro’s early header was cancelled by Abuyeka Kubasu before halftime, but Bockins Adeya and Bundi struck after the restart to make it 3–1. Amunike pulled one back in the 71st minute, but Kibera held firm to claim their second win of the season.

At Moi Stadium Kisumu, Kisumu All Stars were again frustrated, settling for a 0–0 draw against newly promoted Soy United. The point was Soy’s first in the NSL, while All stars continue to search for their first win. Meanwhile, at Sudi Grounds, Nzoia Sugar and FC Talanta played to another goalless draw ,the third consecutive stalemate for the Bungoma-based side, who have now gone two matches without scoring.

As the NSL table begins to take shape, Migori Youth lead with 12 points, followed closely by Naivas, while Kisumu All Stars and Kabati Youth remain in search of their first victories of the campaign.
